This course highlights key issues in public school settings that impact students with cochlear implants. At the root is an understanding of the value of audition and teaching members of the educational team trusting the students’ hearing. The importance of appropriately monitoring students’ progress and truly having high expectations are explored.

Course Objectives:

  • Upon completing this course, learners will be able to outline key concepts of NCLB and IDEA as they relate to students who are deaf or hard of hearing.
  • Upon completing this course, learners will be able to explain what trusting hearing refers to and its impact on student outcomes.
  • Upon completing this course, learners will be able to describe strategies to promote an attitude of higher expectations for students with cochlear implants.
