This online course provides information about the pivotal role of auditory brain growth in the development of spoken communication and reading and academic skills in children with all degrees of hearing loss. Neurological maturation and neural plasticity of the auditory system is discussed. Current best practice protocols and standards are outlined to maximize auditory brain development from audiological and early interventionist perspectives. The importance of a team approach to the management of a child’s hearing loss is detailed.

Course Objectives:
- Participants will be able to describe auditory brain development as the foundation for listening, language, and literacy.
- Participants will be able to detail instructional strategies for facilitating listening in infants and children.
