This presentation examines the special characteristics and needs of adolescent cochlear implant recipients. Recommendations are made for creating habilitation programs that are motivating and challenging but at the same time yield the early success that will keep teenagers engaged in learning to listen with their implants. Case examples provide profiles of distinct groups of implant users in the adolescent population.

Course Objectives:
- Participants will be able to identify general characteristics of the adolescent years which may influence habilitation.
- Participants will be able to compare and contrast pre-implant profiles of teenage recipients.
- Participants will be able to selectively categorize auditory activities as applicable to particular groups of adolescent users.
