This course emphasizes the role that experience books can play in vocabulary acquisition for children who are deaf or hard of hearing. Links to early literacy content standards are highlighted, and suggestions are offered for utilizing experience books to maximize literacy development.

Course Objectives:

  • At the end of this session, participants will be able to discuss the value of experience books in enhancing receptive and expressive language.
  • At the end of this session, participants will be able to identify the distinct purposes of a variety of vocabulary types.
  • At the end of this session, participants will be able to highlight the importance of experience books as tools for enhancing listening and speaking vocabularies.
