When the Going Gets Tough: Shifting Perspectives on Performance Outcomes

 

This program addresses the concerns of professionals who have encountered children for whom cochlear implantation has been “tough going”. Factors that contribute to variable progress are identified and steps for determining an appropriate course of action for such children are reviewed. Case examples highlight options for maximizing each child’s potential with the cochlear implant.

Course Objectives:

  • Participants will be able to identify four factors that challenge a child’s performance with a cochlear implant.
  • Participants will be able to list the components of a systems review for a child with a cochlear implant.
  • Participants will be able to compare and contrast a change in a child’s educational program with a change in expectations for a child.
